Following the success of the fantastic first single ‘Stuck In A Wind Up’, the Lord Large team pull out another classic from their bag of assorted POP wizardry.
This slice of timeless, quintessentially English, pop music was initially written as a salute to the Parkinson TV show theme tune, but it was soon morphed into this gem of a song once it was married with the formidable talents of Squeeze maestro Glenn Tilbrook.
An episode of The Simpson’s proved to be Tilbrook’s lyrical inspiration for this playful yet cutting indictment of George ‘Dubya’ Bush’s character, using the “Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys” reference about the French standpoint on the war in Iraq.
Using the rarely used combination of wit and melody the Lord Large team have produced a truly memorable single worthy of classic status.
However this classic status is not just on the merit of one song BUT from both of the titles on the
single.
Sun in the Sands is the perfect accompaniment to Don’t Stick Around Too Long. A refreshing foot-tapping foray into the nether world of a late 60’s cinematic panorama. Just a short drive to Monaco in a red convertible, a blonde sitting next to you-male or female- depending on your taste, off you go to a secret rendezvous where Ramsey Lewis meets Burt Bacharach in a modern twist that that will serenade you through the night. Pop meets Soul meets Jazz.
The Simpson’s appear courtesy of Fox Television.
George W. Bush appears courtesy of Walt Disney.
