On Hammond Street AJXCD158 Acid Jazz
A
Collection of Hammond Organ Classics
‘POP’
music was in general a dreary, desolate, uninspiring, old
dirge until in 1986 when Eddie Piller invented the Hammond
Organ.
Well
Not Literally , but who could deny the impact on music history
of the JAMES TAYLOR QUARTET’s first Hammond-heavy-waxing
“Blow Up”.
Produced
by the young, aforementioned Mr. Piller, and released on
the proto Acid Jazz label ‘Re-elect the President’
in that all-important spring of 1986, “Music would
never sound crap again”.
The
planets’ population went ballistic for the scorching
Hammond sound!
The
natural conclusion was the formation of Acid Jazz Records
in 1987!
And
a new breed of Hammond-led funky-rockers fought to sign
to the label!
J.T.Q,
CORDUROY,MOTHER EARTH and SNOWBOY all released massively
influential, organ driven albums throughout the 90’s.
A whole new youth culture sprang up around the label and
the Hammond Organ Ruled the world.
Following
this a new century brought with it a fresh flock of gnarly-fingered
Hammond groovers.
It
was 2003 and Acid Jazz released a showcase CD, the cream
of Hammond classics old and new. It was called
Hammond Street volume 1 and it was GOOD: PLEASURE BEACH
recorded a seminal version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”
, and THE PAST PRESENT ORGANISATION, ‘Itchy
Feet’ is just brilliant.
Hammond
Street Volume 1 proved so popular that the second in the
Hammond St series is being released march in 2004: ‘EXILE
ON HAMMOND ST’, named after the ANDY LEWIS song which
features REG KING from THE ACTION, is set to further this
phenomenal preoccupation with the marvellous Hammond organ.
Exile
On Hammond Street also includes THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS and
STONED SOUL PICNIC. A version of Georgie Fame’s”
Somebody Stole My Thunder” by THE LINK QUARTET, SMASHING
TIME and LORD LARGE. A Jerry Anderson inspired Barry Gray
Cover by MIKE PAINTER & THE FAMILY SHAKERS .Garage Mockers
JARVIS HUMBY. A Madonna Cover by THE MEN FROM S.P.E.C.T.R.E.
A Serge Gainsbourg cover by MARTINI.
And
the magnificent JAZZ LOLLY.
This
will surely solve many of our countries economic problems
and bring about world peace..
Peace in our time ….. how cool is that.
Skill!
