Acid Jazz: The Year So Far – Singles

Continuing our round-up of the year so far and this time focusing on all of our 7” inch releases from 2021!

We had brand new music from the late Dean Parrish, yet another fabulous double sider from the wonderful The Kevin Fingier Collective & Earl 16 on a killer new Soul Revivers 45.

We’ve had plenty of reissues from labels Miles Away, Albarika Store and Countdown plus reissues of sought-after stunners from The Tom & Rick Hickman.

DEAN PARRISH – IT’S TIME – PURPLE MOUNTAIN MAJESTY BUY / LISTEN

‘It’s Time – Purple Mountain Majesty’ is a towering slice of psychedelic soul, that references the work of Norman Whitfield and like those records, comes with a powerful message. His last ever release before he recently sadly passed away!

JO ANN HAMILTON & THE KEVIN FINGIER COLLECTIVE – SEPTEMBER / I LOVE WITHOUT A LOVE LISTEN

After the stunning success of ‘Latin Dynamite / El Basement’ by The Kevin Fingier Collective, which sold out 15 days before the release date, the Argentinian producer has discovered a new talent: Jo Ann Hamilton.

SOUL REVIVERS – GOT TO LIVE / LIVING VERSION BUY / LISTEN

Got to Live is a vintage-style, roots reality song, featuring veteran reggae vocal-ist Earl 16. The flip holds Living Version, a instrumental track that is less about the dubwise, but is built for MCs.

DELORES FULLER – ONE MORE CHANCE LORD / MY GREATEST DESIRE LISTEN

Perfectly transcending the genres of gospel, modern soul and disco. One More Chance Lord kicks it off with a piano riff that’ll be stuck in your head for days, building to a soaring chorus with lyrics that would fit any uplifting category.

RITA JOYCE – DANCING CLOSE / BACK HOME AGAIN LISTEN

Dancing Close showcases a vulnerable yet rich and powerful voice, which effortlessly glides across this track. It’s impossible not to mention how tough the drums are, placing themselves right at the front of the mix. A concoction that has led to this single becoming sought-after by soul & hip-hop collectors alike.

MAKIN’ TIME – HONEY / TAKE WHAT YOU CAN GET BUY / LISTEN

Countdown Records are proud to announce the release of the label’s first 7-inch single in over 30 years.

RICK HICKMAN – TIME IS LONG / CLOSER TO ME BUY / LISTEN

Some of the finest blue eyed soul from the small satellite town of flint. Re-discovered by rare soul and jazz connoisseur Des Cridland and now a big Eclectic Soul Show play. A essential addition to your record bag!

THE TOM – EMMANUEL AND RON EXPERIENCE – WHY (THE KNOWER) / WHEN YOU LOSE YOUR GROOVE BUY / LISTEN

When we released Jazz On The Corner 2 last year Eddie Piller chose a fantastic track by Emmanuel K Rahim & The Kahliqs called ‘Al- Alim (The Knower)’. We were then alerted to the fact that Emmanuel had recorded the song as a sublime slice of spiritual soul two years earlier on his own Golden Three Records under the unwieldy name of The Tom – The Emmanuel & Ron Experience.

ORCHESTRE POLY RYTHMO DE COTONOU DAHOMEY – GBETI MA DJRO / ANGELINA II BUY / LISTEN

More dancefloor dynamite from Benin’s almighty Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou Dahomey, this time in the form of ‘Gbeti Ma Djro’
